Sanibel Island, Florida
I was recently looking through my shells from Sanibel Island, Florida as I prepared to design my new Sanibel Shell necklace (below), and I was reminded of what a truly beautiful place the island is.

I chose one of my finest specimens (a lettered olive shell) as the focal point of the necklace, but one look at the photo below, and you’ll see that Sanibel Island has an amazing assortment of shells!

In fact, the island is often rated as the number one spot in the U.S. for collecting sea shells. Because the Island runs east-west, unlike most islands that run north-south, it acts like a giant scoop, resulting in the most amazing amount and variety of shells. The shells make a lovely twinkling sound as they tumble in the surf, and then wash up on shore, collecting ankle-deep.
Sanibel Island is a wildlife refuge, offering solitude and an unspoiled bit of paradise. Below you’ll see my very favorite beach cottage, and some photos of the beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Sanibel Island is also home to the original Chico’s store (my very favorite store). So, of course, I had to go! The mother ship was calling!

And Sanibel Island is a huge amount of fun during the Christmas holidays when I was there. Christmas is always such fun in a tropical place!

Check out this little guy. He was in line waiting for Santa during Luminary Night on Sanibel Island.

I’m looking forward to returning to Sanibel Island this winter!
